Specimen Poems

S. Mark

A drawing of three poems pinned into the wall: each follows the structure for labeling insects in collections, with a species (or title) on one label and writing on a separate label.

Clockwise from top left:

New friend

Late to the train

there is a yellow

bellied flicker on the

sidewalk

it hit the post office

window

i move it to the

garden bed and sit

with it a while

S. Mark

Shelf

End of the season

resinous polypore in

my foraging bag

it tastes like the water

i squeeze out of it

i collect it anyways

S. Mark

Go big!

Fall 2021

spinning and lights

soda spilling on the

blacktop leaves the

soles of my shoes

distastefully sticky

you laugh and smile

but i look down and

wish i was home

S. Mark
